Intermodal Expressive Arts Therapy Supervision

For those desiring to deepen their work in expressive arts therapy,
and For therapists pursuing the REAT credential.
Are you interested in bringing the Expressive Arts into your clinical practice? Are you considering applying for the REAT credential?
- This supervision group meets twice monthly via Zoom for therapists who are integrating the arts into their work and for those pursuing the REAT credential through the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA), and seeking group hours toward this.
- Expressive arts therapy group supervision is a relational, arts-based dialogue designed to support a reflective, cooperative facilitation process. The aim is to provide ethical, socially justice–based professional guidance that develops and strengthens sound expressive arts therapy practices.
- Over the course of four months, we will explore foundational practices of using the expressive arts in therapy. This includes examining singular arts compared to intermodal or superimposed approaches, considering the architecture of a session, transference and countertransference issues, ethical dilemmas, case studies, and—most importantly—questions that arise both individually and collectively. We will also explore how to bring the arts online and address issues emerging from our work and lives.
- Sessions invite focus, clarity, community, and curiosity into participants’ practice as expressive arts therapists. Using the arts as a point of inquiry, we will engage in both artistic expression and dialogue to explore our questions and aesthetic responses to the material.
- While supervision is not therapy, we will examine how our personal selves enter the work. As this is not meant to be therapy, outside support is encouraged if needed.
